Quick reference guide for key criteria
Skate parks

- Easy to maintain (with appropriate warranty and workmanship).
- Comply with relevant standards, legislation, corporate documents and approvals
Planning, design and positioning
- Develop skate parks in accordance with AS EN 14974:2021 Skateparks – Safety requirements and test methods and the Sunshine Coast Skate and BMX Plan

Skate park requirements
- Skate elements are to be designed by
- professional skate park designers (in consultation with users)
- suitably qualified engineer (elements and footings).
- Building approval is required
- Surfacing – smooth skating surfaces, well drained area and low maintenance
- Design – cater for different skills and abilities, include covered or shaded areas
- Emergency/maintenance vehicle access – provide 3.6 m open gate width, no obstacles.
Shade trees are to be planted at the time of skate park construction - (A) Shade sails – ensure posts do not become collision points. Provide luminance contrast between support posts and the background
- Signage – Park activity entry sign – mandatory. Locate near entrances in garden beds or at most visible location near skate area. Ensure sign post(s) do not become collision points
Use low planting to support passive surveillance across the park - Provide seating, wheelie bin enclosures and drinking fountains min 5.0 m away from skate park
Consider night lighting.
(B) Finished surface
- Preferred construction to be smooth formed concrete or modular concrete units.
