Dog exercise areas (DEAs)

Overview
This category of the LIM has been developed to provide guidance for the design and construction of dog exercise areas (DEAs):
This category addresses the following:
- Dog Exercise Areas (DEAs)
- Fenced Dog Off-Leash Areas (DOLAs)
- Unfenced Dog Off-Leash Areas (DOLAs)
- Beach DOLAs and their adjoining foreshore access park
- Dog activity areas (e.g. agility/training zone, dog run)
- Dog bowls
- Other DEA embellishments such as bins, seating, signage.
Dog Exercise Areas (DEAs) refer to:
- Public open space areas in which dogs are not specifically prohibited under Sunshine Coast Regional Council Local Law No. 2 (Animal Management) 2011 (i.e dog on-leash recreation trails, beaches, environment reserves and recreation parks), and
- Areas designated as Dog Off-Leash Areas (DOLAs) under the Sunshine Coast Regional Council Local Law No. 2 (Animal Management) 2011.
This section of the LIM primarily relates to the design and embellishment of DOLAs, however may still be applied to elements of standard DEAs. The Sunshine Coast Regional Council Local Law No. 2 (Animal Management) 2011 designates some areas as DOLAs, DEAs and Dog Prohibited Areas at different times of the day or during different seasons. These variations should be considered when designing and embellishing DEAs.
