Barbecues

Positioning

Best practice guidance for the placement and arrangement of embellishments

Site setout

Orientation

  • Position barbecues near picnic tables and benches. Provide circulation space between barbecues, picnic tables and seats, on a hard surface (to reduce wear on grassed areas).
  • At coastal sites align barbecue cabinet access door to the west to minimise corrosion from salt spray from the south east.
  • Align barbecue site and seating to provide views where possible.
  • In high wind locations consider the use of a 3 sided, continuous weld wind shield (100 mm high) around the barbecue cooking area. Note this can impede equal access to the hot plate.

See Figure 2: Typical double equal access barbecue set out.

  • Provide a pathway from the carpark to the barbecue and associated seating.

Safety

  • Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles apply.
