  3. Vandal resistant with parts that are easily replaceable.
  4. Easy to maintain (with appropriate warranty and workmanship).
  5. Comply with relevant standards, legislation, corporate documents and approvals

(3.1.1) Planning, design and positioning

  • A shelter is required over a barbecue

  • Position near picnic tables and benches, and position clear from any objects which may enable unintended access (risk assessment required)
  • Provide wheelchair manoeuvre area around and between furniture

(3.1.2) BBQ Requirements

  1. Activation button: Power save electrical switch with incorporated shutdown feature. Highly visible, positioned for ease of use (not under workbench or on access door) push button start with audible alarms at start and finish of cooking cycle.  Maximum operational force 19.5N.
  2. Labels: Instruction labels in a prominent place, clearly visible at all times, (not under workbench)
  3. Cycle counter meter: Installed inside cabinet as a permanent device
  4. Cabinet, workbench and cook top
    • cabinets must be flat surfaced, 316 stainless steel
    • all stainless steel surfaces must have a high quality polish finish. Surface coatings are not supported
    • include safety features
    • provide universal access to barbecues at the recommended mounting and circulation heights for wheelchair access and reach distance
    • rounded corners required for workbench
    • low maintenance – easy to clean, food grade finish
    • lockable door with bucket (fat collection tray) with waste bags supplied inside cabinet. Access door must face west at all coastal sites
    • SS316 preferred fixings and components
    • cabinet bolted down to finished surface

    • single or double barbecue

(3.1.3) Electrical requirements

  • avoid long run electrical wiring from point of origin due to severe reduction in hotplate heating/cooking performance
  • circuit breaker/residual current device (RCD) must be located in main switchboard, not located in barbecue cabinet
  • electrical connection by a licensed contractor, as per manufacturer's recommendation
  • where there is no electricity supply on-site a 'supply availability request' must be obtained from Energex prior to installation
  • all barbecues to be cabled separately to different RCDs.
