Smart technologies

Positioning
Best practice guidance for the placement and arrangement of smart technologies
Locating technologies
Technologies are installed in locations that are meaningful for their operation and visually unobtrusive, for example:
- Electrical and telecommunications conduits follows the alignment of a concrete path.
- Switchboards are located next to existing building, such as amenities block, and connect to power supply and telecommunications connectivity.
- Multi-function poles and digital kiosks are located at pathway intersections or areas of increased people movements.
- Consideration of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles.
- Foundational infrastructure such as optic fibre and wireless connectivity supports the use of multi-function poles and integrated switchboards that provide power and wireless connection for the sensors and actuators used within open spaces.

Multiple technologies
Multi-function pole
A multi-function pole is designed to house a variety of sensors, devices, banners and signs that can be easily added or removed as required to suit the area being serviced.
- Multi-function poles are located at key points along a route of light poles.
- Poles are connected to power and optic fibre at the time of installation to allow for smart technologies to be added over time, or for specific events.
