Overarching requirements
Embellishments should be designed/selected and installed as follows:
- Fit for purpose, appropriately positioned and accessible.
- Durable, robust and safe (suitable for corrosive environments).
- Vandal resistant with parts that are easily replaceable.
- Easy to maintain (with appropriate warranty and workmanship).
- Comply with relevant standards, legislation, corporate documents and approvals
Planning, design and positioning
- Must be linked to a continuous accessible path of travel
- Positioning near roads, car parks, pathways, playgrounds and picnic areas. Minimise visual impact on the landscape
- Ensure CPTED guidelines are followed
- Subtropical design to capitalise on breezes, gradient of the land, drainage and overland flow paths.
Public amenities requirements
- Designed to engineers specifications, Australian Standards and NCC. pre-fab design or architect design. Designed to Sunshine Coast wind classification. Safety in Design requirements must be met
- Designed to suit wind classification for the site. Appropriate tie-downs in stainless steel must be used
- (A) Roofing – Colorbond/Colorbond Ultra/Colorbond SS (or equivalent). Light colours are preferred to reflect heat. Plastic roof sheeting (e.g. polycarbonate) must NOT be used. Roofing must not drain on, or near, a footpath
- (B) Lighting – must be installed utilising anti-vandal materials and fittings
- (C) Gates and Batten Screens – to assist in CPTED compliance and promote a sense of safety
- (D) Linkage – to a pedestrian pathway for equal access
- (E) Guttering – where guttering is used, it must discharge appropriately and gutter guard must be installed. Where water harvesting is required, a first flush diverter system is to be used.
Finished surface and fixings
- Finish to match adjoining surface
- Marine grade 316SS fixings.
