Graphic design guidelines

Photos and illustrations
Photographs and illustrations are very effective tools for displaying a message quickly and clearly – a picture tells a thousand words. See Sunshine Coast Council Brand Guidelines (internal document) for further guidance.
Some considerations for how best to use photographs and graphic images:
- Avoid photographs or illustrations that simply show what the reader can see for themselves, unless they are annotated.
- Historic photographs representing the past are very effective. Avoid using low quality depictions.
- Line drawings and artist impressions are effective in showing the past, proposed and illustrating how things work. In many instances, they are more effective than text alone.
- Photographs must have written consent for use by the photograph's owner.
- Photographs of people must have a signed Council talent release form from the person portrayed.
