Pictograms

General

Pictograms are a powerful visual tool. They offer a universal language to convey messages quickly and effectively and have been developed to identify specific services and facilities, in place of text. Their versatility can streamline communications and help create a more inclusive and user-friendly message.

  • All pictograms must be to the appropriate scale.
  • Pictograms must be installed with a high contrast between symbol and background.
  • Pictograms should be used with discretion, as over-use may lead to visual clutter, and confusion.

Identifiers

Identifiers are an approved pictogram used to clearly indicate the recreational activity referenced on the sign. They are typically positioned in the upper-right corner to allow for rapid visual recognition by the reader.
